Abstract This article advances the critical atrocity lens in challenging dominant framework that overly emphasises systematic and large-scale killings conflict settings. To do so, it argues for broadened scope of violence to illustrate hate speech discrimination produce similar consequences stripping vulnerable populations their rights livelihoods despite absence mass killings. captures such mundane by unpacking interplay between crimes, against Rohingya refugees during covid -19 pandemic. The findings urge scholars practitioners consider broader human protection peace time address root causes atrocities. In doing can foster inter-communal respect tolerance, hence preventing grievances from turning into incitement violence.
